The Indian steel industry contributes to all the facets of the economy - including GDP, industrial and infrastructural development, and employment. The steel industry contributes approx. 2.5% of national GDP and employs 2.5 million people, directly & indirectly. The steel industry has in recent times attracted some of the highest investments to India and has been a CSR leader, investing in bettering the lives of those in the vicinity of plants and outside.

The Indian steel sector is expected to witness immense increase in steel consumption in infrastructure and construction sectors owing to Government initiatives such as Gati Shakti, Bharatmala, Sagarmala, Dedicated Freight Corridor and Railway expansion and modernisation.. Moreover, aligned with the targets envisaged in the National Steel Policy, large expansions plans have already been declared by major steel producers to reach 300 million tonnes by 2030. The Government of India, on the other hand is majorly focusing on raw material security as well as promoting low carbon emission steel to further contribute to a sustainable future. Emphasis has been laid on ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan’, and ‘Local for Global’ in Steel to take the sector to its highest potential.
